The Old Port of Las Arenas

Many surprises await the visitor in Getxo. This town stands out for its careful and spectacular combination of tradition, nature, architecture, the sea, culture and sports. Added to that, Getxo is a presti­gious gastronomic centre and has a top quality shopping offer. Its cliffs have great landscape and natural value, and allow us to see the rich ecosystem of the Abra bay.

Getxo’s architectural heritage, comprising many interesting buildings, has created an almost cinematographic scenery, spotted with palaces, mansions and beautiful chapels. For that reason, the stretch between the riverside area of Las Arenas, Neguri and the Old Port has been declared “Historical Monuments with the rating of Listed Cultural Asset”. One of these monuments is Bizkaia Bridge, which offers incomparable panoramic views. The fishermen’s houses and narrow streets of the charming Old Port reflect the past of this town, whose fishing activity was very significant. The Marina, in turn, offers many leisure activities, as well as beautiful views of the jetties where the boats are moored and the Abra.
