Sopelana’s astonishing cliffs and wild beaches create an unforgettable landscape. Sports and leisure combine wonderfully in Sopelana, one of the most amazing towns in the Biscayan coast.

It is nature in her pure state. Geological formations that are thousands of years old characterise a coastline where the cliffs and the sea make a perfect match. Many activities can be carried out here.

Having both the sea and the mountains and being near Bilbao, Sopelana is the ideal destination for those who want to get away from the city. It has incredible landscapes, and the sight of the sea and the mountains, and above all the sunset, produces an incomparable feeling of peace and tranquillity.

Both nature and sports can be enjoyed to the full in this town. Sopelana offers activities as varied as surfing, paragliding or climbing. The latter usually takes place in Santa Marina’s Rocks, at the top of which stands a chapel.

In addition, Sopelana has four beaches, each well-known for a particular reason.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

  • Paragliding and Surfing. Flying over the beaches of Sopelana on a paraglider or paramotor gives us a completely di­fferent view from the one we usually see.
  • Routes. The hiking or mountain bi-king routes go past places such as the mountains that mark the dividing line between Sopelana and Berango. The emblematic route of Munarrikolanda, full of dolmens, also runs between these spots. It departs from the Urko Sports Centre, and has turned Sopelana’s natural environment into one of its most important resources.
